Learn the Bones in Your Body

If you are keen to learn the skeletal system then you have come to the right place. Well, this article explains what the skeletal system does and what comprises it.

The bones of the body gives the body the mechanical support. The structure of the body comes from the skeletal system. Movement is facilitated by the skeletal system.

The skeleton structure of the body is made up of the 206 bones, cartilage and the ligaments. So by learning about the skeletal system you would also learn about the bones.

The bones and the teeth are the most visible in a model of the skeleton structure. If you happen to be keen you will be able to see all the constituent parts of the skeleton model. The ligaments and the cartilage are also very basic parts of the skeleton.

Ligaments helps the joints to function properly. Ligaments are basically the bands of dense and fibrous connective tissues. On the other hand cartilage is responsible for the structure of the larynx and the nose. The flexibility of the cartilage is higher than that of the bones.

The bones give the body the structure and enables movement. The brain is protected by the skull; the skull also gives face the structure. The spine consists of over 30 bones. The skeletal system also has three limbs, the upper and the lower limbs, and the girdles. The girdle facilitates the attachment of the four limbs to the vertebral column.

The skull is made up of several bones which surround the brain thereby giving it protection. The thoracic cavity enshrouds the heart and the lungs thereby giving them protection. The vertebral column is responsible for the structure and the protection of the spinal cord.

The bones are attached to the muscles. The nerves in the muscles give the muscles the signal to move. The muscles contract when the nervous system sends commands to the skeletal muscles. The movement at the joints and the bones is made possible by the contraction of the muscles.

You should also know that the bones are grouped into two categories: the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton. The appendicular skeleton is responsible for the movement while the bones of the axial skeleton give protection to the inner organs.

The limbs and the girdles makes up the appendicular skeleton while the skull, vertebral column, thoracic cage comprises the axial skeleton.

The shape and functions of the bones facilitate the typing of the bones.
